From Behind the Stove

This is a Domovoi, sometimes refereed to as "Grandfather". A Russian "demonic" spirit that lives behind one's stove, only coming out at night, because they are shy; rarely seen, but frequently heard as the groans and creaks of the wood. They are small furry spirits that are commonly mistake for the home's cat or dog. They also have the ability to shape shift into the master of the home; they also sometimes are seen as a very old man with a beard. If they aren't in the kitchen they are in the stable, brushing the horse (they like horses). They are needed for the intrinsic health of the home. All they ask for is a small offering (usually a sweet treat, or porridge), and all the dishes to be done.

Now to the "demonic" part. If there is salt on their offering, or if the dishes aren't done, they'll throw a tantrum and either throw pots at the master of the house,  put manure on the porch of the home, or tie up the horses so they can't eat and eventually starve to death.

As "evil" as they sound they aren't nearly as bad as their close cousins, the Bannik and the Ovinnik. The Bannik lives in bathhouses and rips the skin off of whoever visits it, and the Ovinnik burns down barns, waiting for the master of the house to be in it.
